I got the best of both worlds with this session…capturing a beautiful family in their home AND a chance to chase the golden light in a field. Who could ask for anything more? I laughed my heiny (is that really a word?) off at little Ella. Whoever told two year olds the world was theirs seriously meant business! If I could only have their energy for a day or two I might be able to catch up a little. And look at little Addy…she was perfection from the start. No funky newborn skin or wacky noggin peach fuzz. An ideal addition. Here is the spunky Dees family in all their new family dynamic glory. May poor dad surrounded by all these females have a man cave to call his own someday.

Spent some time with my wonderful friend who is getting ready to have her second baby. Since our schedules are so different and we can’t seem to find the time to go shoot in a gorgeous field somewhere, we opted for a few shots in our backyard while our toddlers ran amuck. If this were a real estate deal, “location, location, location” would not have been on the list of sellable features. Between tripping on toys, dodging dog poo landmines, and the fact that our backyard is more of an undeveloped campsite than an actual “yard”, her gorgeousness (is that a word?) still shines through. I am insanely jealous of her thick black locks and exotic features and the fact that she still weighs less than me at 8 months pregnant. What I am not jealous of is the fact that she is having another girl as the one I have is already aging me like the carousel in Ray Bradbury’s “Something Wicked This Way Comes”.

See what I mean about gorgeous…

Yep. This is the last few months of your life where the world revolves around you little one. Eat it up!

Ahhh…yummy light, amazing subject, dirty backyard. Wait…one of these doesn’t fit.

I think she has her own ideas of what a “new baby” means to her…

And of course a few of our little ones together playing oh so gently with rubber babies and plastic carrots. Too bad neither of them actually like real babies or real carrots.

To further emphasize my point…

Signing off with a little trip on the trike. Not sure what they were looking at but whatever it was, it held their attention longer that we could ever dream to.

Can’t wait to meet the new addition to the crew! Now, let’s go find a buttery golden field and get some real maternity shots 🙂
There is a special place in my heart for photographing families in their own home with their new addition. In the brief time I am there, I get an inside peek into their world as it is now. Secure, but unknown. New, yet familiar. With little Josie’s arrival, their unit is now complete as a party of five. I love the raw emotion of watching a family interact together while I catch their private moments, toddler tantrums, and inside jokes. Not only have they changed the “population sign” in their small town, they have changed the way I view the world by watching them just be who they are, embracing new life, bonding as a family, and experiencing life as it is…
