It’s a…….girl!!! I very much connect with parents who wait to find out the baby’s sex. There is something very magical about carrying that mystery around for the duration of a pregnancy. There is also something explosive and life changing when the birthing staff announces what you have been waiting to hear for so many long months. This couple would have been thrilled no matter what the sex was, but the added bonus was that they got a miniature doll baby. Gorgeous from the second she took her first breath out of the womb. Welcome to the world. Your parents rock and don’t you forget it when you’re a teenager locking yourself in your room over apparel disagreements.

Itty bitty baby parts…

I have to admit I was a little excited to hear it was a girl for it gave me an excuse to make her a teeny tiny tutu and headband for the shoot.

This little one did not sleep in the almost 4 hours I was there. The ones with her eyes closed I swear were all taken in the 15 seconds she closed them. Look…a little grin! Probably laughing at me for wishing her to slumber.

Dad is a pro golfer…had to do it.

Something about this one makes me extra emotional.

As a first time parent, those first few weeks and months are shocking, scary, and altogether blurry and confusing. Of course they are rewarding and filled with untapped emotion and love as well. In my opinion, that very first experience with creating a new life will never quite be duplicated.

We’ll sign off with a shot of Babs the “Prior Princess”. Poor thing just looked out that window the entire time waiting for them to take her back to where she came from. Hang in there Babs…soon enough she’ll be grabbing your ears and tail and overfeeding you.

Hopped in the car. No diaper bag, no kids, hot coffee. Blasted rap, country, adult contemporary. Drove over the Bay Bridge at sunrise. No traffic. Glorious journey to see my best friend and her 10 day old baby boy. This is the same friend I used to rollerblade 8 miles to high school with. The friend who used to get blasted by my mom with me for painting our toes with red nail polish on her white carpet. The friend who used to raid the fridge with me at midnight before college finals and rock out in the garage with to Enrique Iglesias and Britney Spears (Gasp! It was a phase!). Together we’ve cried through the deaths of my high school boyfriend, my father, and her husband. We’ve laughed a million laughs, been in a million immature tiffs, and gone from writing 32 page novels in each other’s yearbooks to being moms of 2…a boy and a girl each. Seems like overnight. To say we’ve been through a lot together would be an understatement. We talked about a million poses we had in mind but when the time came, we just wanted to visit. Living a 6 hour round trip drive from each other, we don’t get to do it very often anymore. Here are a few casual shots of her little guy on his 10th day in the world. Now everyone please send sleep vibes her way. And while you’re at it, send some my way too please.

Ok really? Look at those 10 day old eyes looking right into me like he already knows the things his mom and I have been up to!

Baby feet. My favorite thing ever.

Now sleep little guy…sleep. Ok now go back to sleep again. Wait, that was only a 10 minute nap!? Longer next time, please.

What is it about couples expecting their first child that is so uplifting? They do not yet know the impact the birth of their baby will have on them forever. In many ways I envy first time pregnant moms as there is nothing more mysterious and magical than the anticipation of that amazing day and all the days that follow. Sappy, I know…but oh so true.

First, some sunbelly shots to warm your soul.

Danger! FUN bumps ahead!

These two actually got married on these very steps a few years back!

Here’s wishing them a lifetime of happy memories with their baby girl…
